MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 17, 2019, REGULAR BOARD MEETING


CALL TO ORDER

Natalie Hagglund called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom. 

 

ROLL CALL

Board members present: Al Schreiber, Natalie Hagglund, Ken Christoferson, Charlotte Murry, Miranda Evans

 

RECESS

At 12:16 PM, Natalie Hagglund announced the Board would recess to Executive Session for approximately 45 minutes to review the performance of a public employee.

 

RECONVENE

At 1:00 PM, Natalie Hagglund reconvened the regular board meeting.

 

FLAG SALUTE
Ken Christoferson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Ken Christoferson made a motion to approve the Agenda for the December 17, 2019 Regular Board Meeting. Miranda Evans seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Minutes for the December 3, 2019 Regular Board Meeting. Charlotte Murry seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

 

DONATIONS
The donations were presented by Ken Christoferson as follows: 

The Stanwood-Camano School District received the following donations:

  1. The Stanwood Elementary PTO received a $10,000.00 education grant from the Stillguamish Tribe of Indians and purchased online subscriptions to Reflex Math for Grades 2 through 5 and the PAX Good Behavior Game for Stanwood Elementary,
  2. $7,555.00 was received from the United Way of Snohomish County to pilot a district Jump Start Kindergarten Program,
  3. Stanwood Elementary PTO donated $926.33 to cover transportation costs to Camp Seymour for the Stanwood Elementary Fifth Grade Outdoor Education Camp,
  4. $576.24 was received from Elger Bay Elementary PTA to cover transportation costs for the Fourth Grade field trip to Swans Trail Farm and the Kindergarten field trip to the Fire Station and Gordon’s Pumpkin Patch,
  5. The Stanwood Booster Club Sports Account donated $304.79 to cover transportation costs for the Cross-Country Jock and Jill event in Seattle on September 29, and $175.10 to cover transportation costs for the Cross-Country field trip to Cama Beach on October 7, and
  6. Stanwood Elementary PTO donated $255.32 to cover transportation costs for Preschool field trips to Fosters Pumpkin Patch on October 21 and 25.

FINANCIAL UPDATE
Steve Lidgard presented a Financial Report for November 2019.  The Executive Summary, Managers’ Expenditure Report, Object Summary Report for Salaries and Benefits, and the Budget Status Report ending fund balances were reviewed.

CONSENT AGENDA
Miranda Evans made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items # 1 through 7, as listed below. Charlotte Murry seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

  1. Donations.
  2. Second Reading of New Policy 2418 Waiver of High School Graduation Credits. 
  3. First Reading of Revised Policy 2410 High School Graduation Requirements. 
  4. Facility Use Agreement with the YMCA of Greater Seattle for Cedarhome Elementary Outdoor Education Camp, June 1-3, 2020, at Camp Orkila. 
  5. Five-Year Affiliation Agreement with the University of Phoenix for Student Intern Placement. 
  6. Personnel Consent Agenda
  7. Bills and Payroll.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS

All Board members extended happy holidays to all. 
Charlotte Murry thanked everyone for the work they have done this year. 
Miranda Evans shared she enjoyed attending holiday performances at schools.

Jean Shumate extended best wishes for the holidays and invited everyone to attend a reception in the Curriculum Training Room to honor Julie Dean and Chad Lewis.

 

ADJOURNMENT

Natalie Hagglund adjourned the regular meeting at 1:12 PM.

 

BOARD MEMBER RECEPTION

A reception was held in the Curriculum Training Room from 1:15 PM to 3:00 PM for out-going board members Julie Dean and Chad Lewis to thank them for their service.
